News El 6 Novocherkassk

November 16, 2022, deputies of the Novocherkassk City Duma held a field session on the production site of EL6 Novocherkassk (previously EPM-Novocherkassk Electrode Plant).

Gennady Velichko, Director EL6 Novocherkassk, personally met the deputies to show the plant and tell in detail about manufacturing graphitized products.

They visited some workshops, such as Firing House, Re-Firing & Treatment, Graphitization, Mechanical Processing of Electrode Products, and the Verification Center, and also checked reliability of the plant’s protective facility.

During the visit, Gennady Velichko emphasized that: “In line with the company’s strategy, EL6 Novocherkassk is actively boosting production of high-quality UHP electrodes intended for modern electric arc furnaces. The demand for domestic electrodes among Russian steelmakers is currently growing. EL6 is the only Russian producer capable of replacing imported graphite electrodes, which were previously supplied from Europe, the USA or other countries. Operations in many industries depend on us.

In these difficult economic times, smooth and uninterrupted production flow at EL6 Novocherkassk is our great responsibility. The company’s top management focus on tackling organizational, financial and technological problems, while the team engages in operational implementation. The branch employs about 2,000 people.”

An important topic of the meeting and, consequently, the deputies’ key questions related the plant’s environmental program. 

“All sources of air pollution are fitted out with dust and gas scrubbing equipment,” said Gennady Velichko. “Our enterprise has 41 ESPs (for dust and tar), 39 cloth-tube dust arresters of various designs, cyclonic dust collectors, adsorption facilities, wet-type dust collectors, TDUs, and a sediment pond.  The Environment Protection Directorate engages in repairs and maintenance of the dust and gas scrubbing equipment in accordance with the approved routine and preventive repair schedule, with 36.7 million rubles being spent on equipment repair and replacement in the first three quarters of 2022.

The enterprise has introduced environmental protection measures and has developed an environmental audit program used by an accredited laboratory to measure dust content. And the ongoing measurements did not reveal any violation in 2022.”
